Description:
They wander into a construction zone where the old hotel is being refitted. A steel elevator shaft remains intact. Against advice, they ride it. No floors listed, only dates. They choose October 4. The doors open into the Kyoto palace grounds—on the day they left. Same light, same pigeons. They walk the perimeter, seeing themselves in the distance. Juna writes a note and drops it into the gravel. The elevator returns them to Nagasaki, dusty and quiet. Later, in Kyoto, they find the note embedded in a crack in the stone. Time didn’t rewind—it echoed. Judai’s notebook reads: “Don’t change anything, even if you’re already there.”
