5.19. The Classroom for Forgotten Future Leaders
(Location: Pavilion 11, Institute of Tomorrow’s Officials)
Description:
This school trained young diplomats and administrators for a future state that was never globally recognized. Desks remain in rows. Each nameplate reads: *To Be Appointed.* Judai reads from a curriculum titled *Governance of Hypotheticals.* Juna finds a final exam question: *If sovereignty fails, how would you manage its memory?* On the blackboard, equations mix emotional outcomes with population metrics. A half-painted mural shows smiling figures wearing contradictory uniforms. “They taught them how to behave in scenarios that would never occur,” Juna says. The bell rings every hour, despite the school being closed for decades. Its last recorded graduation featured students bowing to a blank diploma.
Keywords:
##aspirational governance
##training for absence
##bureaucratic rehearsal
##symbolic education
##phantom graduation
Very Short Story:
Judai tried answering the exam. “What would you do if your country vanished mid-sentence?” The chalk broke. Juna found a locker with speeches written in passive voice. “They were conditioned to apologize for events that hadn’t happened.” The podium bore a single word: *Almost.* Their shadows stretched over empty desks.
