7.10. The Launch Tower Buried in Light
(Location: JOAC Courtyard, Beneath Reflector Well)
Description:
In the center of the JOAC courtyard stands a reflecting pool—unremarkable until Judai noticed the star patterns misaligned. Beneath the water, through a grated panel, they found the base of a rusted metal tower. It once served as a ceremonial launcher—not for rockets, but for declarations. Students and astronomers would recite intentions from the platform before sunrise, hoping light would carry them beyond. The tower was decommissioned in 1973 after an “overresponse” from the heavens—never explained. Juna sat on the pool’s edge and saw herself shimmer into the reflection as multiple versions. “The tower's still listening,” she said. Judai dropped a coin. It hovered for a second, then melted into light.

Very Short Story:
She wanted to speak, but the reflection beat her to it. “Don’t launch,” her mouth said before she opened it. Judai reached for the grate, but the metal dissolved into cloud. “They built it for light,” he said. “But they didn’t expect a return signal.” The pool trembled once. A photograph floated up—of the tower, clean and new, with their silhouettes already in it. They didn’t remember taking it. But they knew they had been there before.
