4.18. Debriefing Room for Unseen Traumas
(Location: Clinical Annex 7Q, Observation Sector)
Description:
A softly lit room. Two chairs face each other, separated by a mirror that reflects nothing. On the table: tissues, a blank notepad, and a pencil that cannot write. This is where soldiers were debriefed for wars they didn’t know they fought. Juna presses play on the recorder. Static, then a whisper: *Tell us what you remember about what you don’t.* Judai opens a file labeled “Symptoms of Invisible Combat” containing: time displacement, empathy overdrive, phantom medals. One wall features anonymous silhouettes and captions like *Recovered But Never Briefed.* “They returned from something,” Juna murmurs. “But no one knew where they’d been.” Outside, the sign reads: *Mental Theater – Closed for Maintenance.* The traumas here are real. Only the war is missing.

Very Short Story:
Juna sat in the chair and tried to speak. Words formed, then drifted. Judai reviewed a transcript filled only with pauses and breath markers. The file listed her as both witness and unknown. “They were fighting without scenes,” she whispered. “Only settings.” The pencil she held finally scratched a line—shaped like a spiral, not a sentence. One soldier’s voice came through the speaker: “I forgot what I forgot.” The mirror offered no reflection, just depth. They exited with nothing in hand, but more weight than when they entered. The trauma had structure. Even if the story refused to form.
