3.5. Station Without Platform

(Location: Shadowrail Depot, Edge of Mount Takao)

Description:
A station sits carved into the mountain, yet no tracks arrive. The digital display cycles station names in an unreadable script. Judai counts the characters—always 26. Juna finds a broadcast console tucked behind a storage room, repeating a voice: “Next arrival: past recognition.” A time-stamped schedule is posted—except all the times are labeled as “inbetween.” They wait an hour. Then another. No train comes, but the air whooshes and shifts. Shadows of carriages pass briefly across the wall. “It’s not a stop,” Juna says. “It’s a commentary.” Judai traces his finger along the empty platform edge, which hums faintly with motion. A ticket machine spits out a receipt with the words: *Transit Denied: Already Departed.* The echo lingers longer than expected.

Keywords:
##phantom infrastructure
##non-arrival schedule
##temporal transit denial
##platform of absence
##disembodied departure

Very Short Story:
They waited. Not for the train, but for the possibility of a train. Juna read each station name aloud; they meant nothing and everything. Judai placed a coin into the ticket machine, which responded with silence. Then a rush of wind. A pressure change. No one arrived, and yet the station felt visited. “Maybe it only stops for those who never left,” Juna said. “Or those who don’t know they arrived.”
