26.26. Pavilion for the Last Map
(Location: Hill 26, Summit Trace, Fukushima Perimeter)
On the last surveyed hill of the district lies a hexagonal pavilion, cracked but standing. A ceramic table within contains an engraved relief map—every contour hand-scratched, each village named, even the erased ones. A compass is inset, but it points inward. Judai runs his hand along a ridge labeled 'This Is The End'. Juna finds the final inscription: 'Cartographer Unknown'. The roof is scorched, as if struck by light. Yet the table is unblemished. Below it, a drawer holds ashes and a badge: '26th Mapping Division'.
Keywords: relief map, terminal geography, cartographic memory, invisible route, erasure monument
Very Short Story:
They memorize the map, though the towns are long gone. Juna copies a name that no database accepts. Judai folds an invisible paper, tracing new routes. They leave with the map still there, untouched. Above them, the weather clears just long enough to see where they are not.
