26.22. The Lake Where Time Was Undrunk
Location: Ozenuma Perimeter Dock
Description:
Surrounded by thick forest and the hush of glacial air, Ozenuma doesn’t reflect light—it delays it. Judai and Juna arrive at the dock during a strange hour when no shadows fall. A rowboat sits untouched, its oars strapped in a cross. The water here resists mirrors. Drinking from it once caused hallucinations, the sign says, but the cup they bring remains dry. This is a lake of withdrawal—of withheld sensation. A lantern flickers in daylight, then snuffs out as if embarrassed. Every photo taken here develops blank. Judai tosses a stone that never ripples. Juna writes a poem she can’t read. Ozenuma is where time pools, then drains. But never forward. The dock is a timestamp that denies timestamps.
Keywords:
Ozenuma Lake, temporal distortion, unrecordable memory, hallucination water, stagnant time
Very Short Story:
They waited for the light to change, but it didn’t. Judai tried photographing the lake—each image returned pure white. “We’ve stepped outside of sequence,” he muttered. Juna approached the rowboat and unfastened the oars. She rowed nowhere, water unmoving beneath her. On the dock, Judai checked his watch: 4:18 p.m., endlessly. A woman appeared at the edge of the trees and placed something in the water. It floated back toward shore. Juna caught it—a sealed bottle, labeled “Yesterday.” She opened it. Inside: their own voices, younger, describing a sunrise. “It’s a memory we haven’t lived yet,” Juna whispered. Judai nodded, unsure. They left the lake backwards, never turning their backs. The dock remained dry. The boat, unmoored.
