22.14. Lost Signature Ceremony
Location: Embassy of Echoes, Dairen Phantom Quarter
Description:
The embassy does not appear on maps, but Judai finds it by following a trail of canceled stamps. Inside, an ornate hall full of long tables, ink pots, and empty frames. Each chair bears a nameplate that fades when touched. This is the location of a ceremony that never concluded. Juna identifies her seat by the outline of a book she once carried. The treaty is missing. So is the pen. But the signing continues—each visitor asked to pretend their hand remembers. Surveillance cameras blink red without recording. The chandelier flickers in Morse code: “Who wrote this?” No answer. The building sighs. The embassy waits to be noticed again.
Keywords:
missing treaty, vanishing nameplate, echo chamber embassy, phantom bureaucracy, unresolved signing
Very Short Story:
She sat, instinctively. The chair adjusted to her spine. Judai moved toward the pen, only to watch it evaporate. “It must have been signed,” he guessed. “Then why are we still here?” she asked. The hall filled with imagined applause. “We accept,” someone said. But nothing was offered. Juna stood. The seat beneath her kept the imprint of a decision. She nodded to the chandelier. “Let’s count that as witnessed.”
