Location: Overlaid Memory Grid, Former Streetcar Line
Description:
The streetcars no longer run, but the power lines remain—repurposed into a glowing grid that overlays Urakami’s central district. At night, the lines illuminate in segments, forming a memory-based map of where things used to be. The grid corrects the present. At 9:12 each evening, it realigns itself. Juna walks beneath it and notes that her shadow splits: one follows her, another returns to the station. Judai listens to the buzz—different frequencies for different locations. In the middle of a now-empty intersection, a film is projected directly onto the air: people waiting for a train that never comes. As she crosses beneath an old rail armature, Juna feels the cold of metal long gone. The city edits itself nightly. And they are part of the revision.

Very Short Story:
Judai stood where his uncle’s pharmacy once was. Now it was only light, flickering in amber lines. “This is the platform,” Juna said, though the street was bare. They stepped into the intersection and were cast in silhouette against a film of strangers. A voice narrated names no longer in the registry. She waved her hand—her shadow on the wall delayed by two seconds. “The grid’s behind,” he said. “Or we are.” The light pulsed blue. A projector beeped. Then rewound. The whole district dimmed, then reloaded. Their positions were unchanged, but everything else had shifted. Juna’s book glowed at the edges. She had already written this scene.
