20.13. The Reel Entombed in Glass
Location: Glass Crypt, Reconstructed Peace Park Vault
Description:
Deep beneath the Peace Park, behind a cracked plate of fused glass, lies a single 35mm reel encased in resin. It’s labeled only with a number: “1012.” The reel glows faintly red in darkness, though no power source is connected. Radiation experts say it's inert; monks say otherwise. Juna and Judai descend with protective garments and find the chamber perfectly quiet—no echo, no pulse. And yet, something pulses within the reel: occasional clicks, a faint rhythmic throb. The film is said to contain images of the “second detonation,” which never officially occurred. In a forgotten protocol, this reel was meant to be shown only if the city failed to recover. But it was never shown. And now, it cannot be removed.
Keywords:

Very Short Story:
They stood before the glass for twenty silent minutes. Judai adjusted his glasses; Juna scribbled nothing. Behind the reel, a shadow flickered—too quick to be light, too rhythmic to be random. “It’s still playing,” she whispered. “Even now.” Judai thought of the number 1012 and felt an itch behind his eyes. The reel pulsed once, and he saw flames drawn inward, reversing. A crowd turned to face a camera that had never arrived. Juna took her book and tapped the glass three times. The throb ceased. They walked up the stairs, Judai muttering numbers, Juna humming a lullaby she'd never learned. Later, the museum director insisted: the glass had never vibrated.
