13.7. -** ***Broadcast in a Room with No Microphone
Location: Inari Shrine Side Annex, Sub-Radio Chamber B
Description:
Under layers of roof tile and cedar dust, a room pulses with red light. No microphone, no antenna—just an array of dials, glowing tubes, and a chair bolted to the floor. The logs on the table document broadcasts never received: frequencies spoken only within this sealed room. Juna reads notes from a woman listed only as “K.M.”: phrases about interplanetary warnings, about staged rehearsals of war, about how a broadcast might protect even if it was never heard. Judai switches on the power. The room vibrates like a struck bell. Somewhere in the Phobos-Kyoto hybrid sky, a signal begins again. “It’s a transmission to nowhere,” Juna says. But they both listen. The silence is filled with effort.

Very Short Story:
They sat side by side, hands on copper rails. Juna closed her eyes. “I can feel the words but not hear them,” she whispered. Judai wrote the sensation down. After five minutes, the red light blinked once. A soft voice hummed without language, like a mother warming air. The dials spun slowly, then stopped. “This isn’t communication,” Judai said. “It’s shelter.” He flipped the switch off. Juna folded the last log into her book. The room darkened, but the warmth remained. As they left, the chair turned gently as if someone had just risen. It would wait for the next unheard speaker.
