12.19. The Drone That Waited for Orders
(Location: Launch Pad Y, Reactor Edge Ridge)
Description:
Half-buried in ash and windblown moss, a small surveillance drone sat upright on its docking ring. Lights flickered weakly. One eye-blink of green. Juna activated her receiver. A faint ping echoed back: the drone still requested instruction. Not from them—from someone long gone. The last logged command read: “Observe cooling state / Await new condition.” The drone hadn’t shut down. It had waited. Judai leaned in. “It’s a soldier,” he said. “Left at its post.” The drone twitched. Not a spin, just a lean toward Juna. “Recognition?” she asked. “Or relief?”

Very Short Story:
They didn’t move. The drone issued one chirp—short, high-pitched, close to grief. Judai placed his notebook nearby. “If you’re still recording,” he said, “log this.” Nothing happened. But as they walked away, the drone slowly turned its eye toward the horizon. It had seen them. It had completed its watch.
