12.14. The Thermographic Image That Changed Each Time
(Location: Data Lab 3, Monitor Wall)
Description:
In the data lab, a single monitor remained powered by a backup battery unit encased in salt bricks. The screen looped one image: a thermographic silhouette of a person crouching near Reactor 2. Each replay showed a slight variation—arms out, arms down, face lifted, face obscured. “Is it a composite?” Judai asked. “Or are we seeing every observer who ever stood there?” Juna captured the sequence with a handheld scanner, but each frame reversed itself in memory. “It’s a heat-based haunting,” she finally said. The silhouette might be hers. Or his. Or theirs. The monitor didn’t show surveillance. It showed time trying to remember who had noticed the fire.

Very Short Story:
They took turns standing in front of the screen. After each viewing, the figure shifted again. Judai saw his own bent posture reflected next. Then Juna saw her book clutched in its hands. “But I never stood there,” she insisted. The screen disagreed. It had already decided. Each visitor becomes the witness. Each witness becomes the subject.
