1.5. The Actor as Chaim Pollock
(Location: Ueno Park, Under Lantern Arch)
Description:
Makigami Koichi stands under an arch of stone lanterns, wearing the black coat and wide-brimmed hat of his role: Chaim Pollock, a character from a vanished 1912 play. His face remains indeterminate — not masked, but unrecorded. He performs monologue fragments as if under an invisible spotlight, pausing only to glance at his phone. A wall breach in Gaza has just occurred. The timing disturbs him, though his lines continue. Judai and Juna watch from a stone bench, taking notes. The performance is not art. It is synchrony — a dramatization of the world’s collapse staged within Tokyo’s stillness. Every costume is now a calendar.

Very Short Story:
Koichi paced slowly. “There was a gate,” he said. “A gate in Manchuria… or Gaza… I forget.” The wind lifted his coat slightly. He looked up at Judai and Juna — not as characters, but as auditors. “I don’t remember the second act,” he confessed, and bowed. In his hand, the phone buzzed with news. Juna stood and said, “The breach was noted. Continue.”
