6.22. The Astronomy of Silence

(Location: Starless Dome Annex, JAOC Periphery)

Description:
The annex was constructed to study starfields artificially removed of known bodies. “To understand absence, subtract everything,” reads the foundation plaque. No constellations are projected here—just void. Judai enters and instantly feels weightless. Juna locates a central dial labeled *Silence Intensity,* calibrated not in decibels but in years. They set it to *1971,* and a low hum begins—a tone of policy erased. Around the dome, carved into the walls, are the names of entire galaxies marked as forgotten. The project’s subtitle: *Celestial Amnesty Program.* One display case holds a brass coin with both sides blank. “They paid for forgetting,” says Juna, “but the interest collects in the sky.”

Keywords:
##starless observatory
##subtractive sky model
##silence intensity dial
##celestial amnesty program
##galactic erasure coin

Very Short Story:
Juna adjusted the dial to *\1983.* The dome filled with nothing—and then less. A breeze of memory passed through them, trailing light without source. Judai knelt at the wall and touched the name of a galaxy once described in a journal of dreams. “Do we owe it anything?” he asked. “Only attention,” Juna replied. The blank coin rattled on its own in the display case. Above them, a projected map of void blinked once—then nothing again.
