Location: Bureau of Temporary Formations, Changchun South Office
Description:
This bureau cataloged provisional organizations—committees, battalions, secretariats—that existed only for a week or a day. The Treaty of Disbandment is signed each time a group ceases to exist. Juna finds a ledger with entries like “Tea Coordination Council – 3 days,” “Emergency Assembly of Nothing – 2 hours.” Judai opens a drawer to find a dozen blank seals. No one questions the form. Every disbandment is celebrated. There’s even a room for symbolic applause. The bureau itself was dissolved five times, and yet here it stands. They walk through file cabinets labeled with vanishing. The treaty they find is already signed. In their own handwriting.
Keywords:
temporary agency, formal disappearance, celebratory dissolution, treaty of ending, archival vanishing
Very Short Story:
Juna filed a paper she hadn’t written. Judai found his signature on a form that didn’t exist. A bell rang—symbolic end of a meeting that had never begun. Applause erupted from invisible speakers. “Are we disbanded?” she asked. “For today,” he answered. They exited through a hallway labeled “Erasure In Progress.” Behind them, lights flicked off sequentially. The bureau dissolved into air. Only their footprints remained—until they didn’t.
