==== 16.15. The Ballot of Disappearances ====
\\
**Location:** Hall of Adjustments, Sakurai Prefecture Archives \\

**Description:** \\
In a marble chamber beside Sakurai’s ruins lies a bronze voting machine with no labels, no levers---only a single button: “Proceed.” It was built in 1965 as part of the "Adjustment Vote" initiative---a system to erase from records what the state called “unnecessary existences.” Judai stares at its face: no interface, just the word *Proceed*. Juna recalls her grandmother speaking of this room in fear. They press nothing. But the machine reacts anyway---printing a long, pale scroll of vanished schoolchildren, forgotten activists, reclassified families. No mechanism powers it. The ink is warm. In the archives, this room is not listed. But the building was designed around it, and its vote is still tallied every election year---though no one remembers casting it. \\

**Keywords:** \\
Sakurai adjustment vote, bronze ballot device, erased civic records, unlisted voting chamber, scroll of disappeared citizens \\

**Very Short Story:** \\
Juna touched the scroll. The paper curled like a tongue. She read aloud a name she didn’t recognize---and felt her heartbeat sync with the machine. “Do you know her?” Judai asked. “No,” she said. “But she was almost me.” They left without voting. Yet outside, Judai’s ID no longer matched his notebook. And the bus route back had changed. At the station kiosk, the schedule listed a destination: “RECORD REMOVED.” They boarded anyway. \\
