15.9. The Disappearing Platform

Location: Kyoto Station, Platform 0
Description:
There is no Platform 0 on any official signage, but every 13th of the month at 13:13, an unmapped staircase appears behind the convenience kiosk on the west wing. Judai and Juna followed the steps one humid afternoon, arriving on a silent, concrete platform. No trains. Just a long timetable board that updated in archaic kanji. The destinations were dreams: “Omission,” “Pre-war Continuation,” “Undo.” A bench bore the plaque: *For Observers Only.* Time passed in reverse—the sun dropped higher, announcements grew backward. A train whistle echoed, but no rails were present. The platform wasn’t for transport—it was for remembering the desire to depart.

Very Short Story:
They waited. Juna noted how her watch ticked counterclockwise. Judai re-read a schedule that kept unprinting itself. “It’s not a destination,” he said. “It’s the idea of leaving.” They heard a train in the distance. Both stood. But the bench whispered: “Stay seated to continue.” They sat. The train arrived in sound only, then departed in scent—steam, tobacco, lilac. Nothing visible changed. Yet everything felt one step more distant.
