==== 14.16. The Silent Frog Reporter ====
\\
**Location:** Former Press Club Archives, Nara City \\
**Description:** \\
They called it “Ribbit 7” in the logs---an anonymous correspondent whose stories were never read aloud. Housed inside the Nara Press Club, Room C was reserved for stories submitted in croaks, typed by unknown hands, and filed under “non-human opinion.” Judai and Juna find pages marked *Perspective: Amphibian Observer*, detailing imperial parades, war broadcast rehearsals, and recordings from the shrine underbelly. The frog in question, they learn, wore a miniature ribbon and once co-hosted a midnight segment called *Before the Silence*. But no footage remains---only closed-caption tracks rendered in kanbun. When Judai plays a restored audio file, the frog’s voice is synthetic but assertive: “We did not watch. We listened.” It wasn’t a broadcast---it was an eavesdropping. A quiet revolt by reception. \\

**Very Short Story:** \\
Juna traced the filing cabinet to its corner---drawer 9, labeled “Non-Mammal Editorials.” Inside were tapes, each in a VHS box shaped like a lily pad. Judai clicked play. The tape began with static, then croaks syncopated like coded Morse. Subtitles rolled in imperial script. “Is this... news?” he asked. Juna nodded. “A testimony. From those who couldn’t look away.” She transcribed the final line before it erased itself: *The emperor’s gaze never touches water. That is where we speak.* They left the cabinet open. That night, every frog outside the archive faced north. \\
